Have you ever thought “I would like to write a book one day. Maybe when I have more free time.”
If so, that day could be sooner than you dreamed! Read on for my foolproof system…

I am so excited to spill the beans on a high-tech yet ultra creative writing process I usually reserve for my private, book writing clients.
If you’ve ever wondered if you could write a book as a non-writer…trust me you can! Some of my book doula clients are dyslexic, don’t identify as confident writers and are on their second or third published masterpieces.
Read on to learn one of the powerful 7 step systems I harness as a professional book doula.
1. Create a Mind Map – brainstorm every possible story and idea related to your central theme.
LET IT BE MESSY AND CHAOTIC!
I RECOMMEND LOOKING UP MIND MAP TEMPLATES IN CANVA OR EVEN BETTER…GET IT DONE KINDERGARTEN STYLE. GRAB SOME BUTCHER PAPER AND STICKY NOTES TO UNLEASH YOUR MIND.
2. Organize your Mind Map into book chapters and key points using presentation slides.
NOTHING FANCY, OK? IT’S JUST FOR YOU.
DON’T GET DISTRACTED BY DESIGN AND VISUAL FLUFF.
3. Record yourself presenting.
IMAGINE YOU’RE ON BOOK TOUR READING TO A LIVE AUDIENCE IN PARIS AT THE CUTEST CAFE…! THERE IS ROOM FOR ENDLESS EDITS SO AIM TO SPEAK FROM YOUR HEART AND CROSS THE FINISH LINE. NO ROOM FOR PERFECTION PARALYSIS HERE OK?
4. Transcribe your audio.
THERE ARE OODLES OF TRANSCRIPTION TOOLS OUT THERE NOW. DESCRIPT , TRANSKRIPTOR AND TEMI ALL USE AI SOFTWARE. REV USES HUMANS.
5. Send your transcript to a professional copy editor who can turn it into a book…easy peasy.
OVER HERE AT EMILYBAUMAN.CO and THENEWBOSS.CO WE USE UPWORK AND FIVERR TO HIRE FREELANCERS FOR ALL KINDS OF TASKS, INCLUDING PODCAST PRODUCTION, COPY EDITING AND PROOFREADING MANUSCRIPTS.
6. Have fun with the book production & cover design.
CHECK OUT MARKETPLACES LIKE 100COVERS.COM for GORGEOUS, CUSTOM BOOK COVER DESIGNS FOR JUST $100! THEY LOOK MORE PROFESSIONAL AND POLISHED THAN WHAT YOU CAN WHIP UP ON CANVA.
Pro Tip: If you’re a creative type, start looking up covers right away. This will inspire you to get through the ‘less fun’ processes like organizing your book chapters into a presentation.
I also guide my private clients on how to stay connected to the energy and the big purpose of their writing project. Nothing gets you through self-doubt quagmires like “will anyone care if I do publish?” like holding onto the one face of the ONE person who could benefit from reading it.

7. Call on a Book Doula for Support Because…
The middle journey of book writing can feel like you’re Frodo trying to save Middle Earth alone, or you’re on a solo sea voyage through deep, uncharted waters.
The truth is, as we write stories that matter, resistance gremlins call out like treacherous sirens and inner, hurt features of our psyche can rear up for healing and acknowledgement. Resistance rises in proportion to how much positive impact your book could have.
I’m not talking about co-writing a book in half a day with Chat GPT just because it could fill an Amazon niche and sell.
What we’re talking about here is what it takes to tell your personal story of transformation, offer advice from the heart, share a paradigm busting system, or write fiction from your purest imagination.
It’s not always comfortable and many people turn to alcohol to get through. It’s true! No judgement.
I’ve been there many times myself (although I turn to my spiritual practices like heart-mind-coherence breathwork and Internal Family Systems rather than whiskey sours these days 😝).
The past three years since quitting my full time communications job at the United Nations, I’ve guided new authors and industry-famous repeat authors safety through the storms of open seas and home to tranquil lakes.
One of my greatest joys after their book is birthed, is sharing in the ‘PINCH ME” thrill of seeing that book baby climb the Amazon charts. It’s exciting every time!
So, if you feel you’ve got book in you, and you are determined not to sink the ship mid-journey. It’s a three month time investment with priceless outcomes for your life legacy.
“THE WORLD WILL NEVER BE CHANGED BY STORIES THAT STAY UNWRITTEN”
